Butterfly Wings

Never goes a day at the BookHouse where we don’t come across little kids spreading their wings. This one day, we are visited by Ishika , Kashish & Vidhita, 7th std. students at SKV Girls Senior Secondary School.
Their dreamy eyes lit up as Ishika told us, “I aspire to become an Air Hostess one day and my friend Vidhita wishes to be a Lawyer. She not only helps me in selecting books at the book house but also donates books along with me!”
Being children of whitewashers, their atrocities aren’t difficult to imagine. They recall how a year ago they needed Mathematics and English workbooks to practice for their finals but could not afford it and how a mere step by our volunteers changed their life.
“Our fathers work really hard day in and day out to support our education along with all the family expenses. We were struggling a lot on the education front until we discovered Books For All in our School Fair – they had put up a donation stall in our school. This was no less than a miracle for us! Ever since we found Books For All, we have been able to get all kinds of books – guide books, story books and even notebooks for our use. I really hope I become what I aspire to be and that Books For All plays a great role in it!”
We wish we benefit the next Neerja Bhanots and Pinky Anands in our small little way.

Stiching Dreams

“I have been altering clothes outside a park in Subhash Nagar for the past 15 years. I have only studied till class 2 so it was very difficult for me to find a job, that is when I started altering clothes. Thankfully, I am able to feed my family through this job.
We found Books For All last year, before this I was not able to provide books for my kids outside of school and it made me feel frustrated as a father. I have three kids, my biggest daughter wants to be a judge, my son who is in class 3 wants to become a pilot one day and the little one is on its way to start schooling.
I am so grateful to Guzarish NGO for starting this project my kids have been studying extremely well!
Now I can easily provide my kids the books they require and that makes me believe that one day my kids will become what they wish to be, I hope God always does things in our favor, Books For All is no less than a miracle for us.”

Driver Of My Ambition

“Taranum and Firoza’s father, being an auto rickshaw driver, is often not able to provide for the basic necessities let alone books. However, that doesn’t disappoint the little sisters who say, “He may not be able to buy bicycle for me and Barbie doll for my sister but he always treats both of us like princesses.”
The sisters, both students of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, have found their recourse at BookHouse. “Before we found Books For All, it was difficult for us to manage studies. Thanks to Books For All, now we are able to study properly and consistently”, they say.
They are regulars at BookHouse and religiously visit at the beginning of their session to take new books and donate old ones.
“We hope to make our father proud by becoming IAS officers one day.”

Our Visionary Visitors

Junaid and Owais’s brother is a teacher at the Azim Premji Foundation based in Rajasthan. He is a regular visitor at the BookHouse and often takes books for his school. He, himself, is a Political Science graduate from Delhi University. Recalling his struggles with education, he tells us, “The children in my school have better availability of books than I had during my schooling and graduation.”
“Our father struggled to provide books for my brothers and me until we found Guzarish last year”. He thanks Guzarish’s Books For All project for providing books at a flat price of ₹10 to all government school students and NGO’s.
“My brothers Junaid and Owais cleared their 12th and 10th from Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya respectively with flying colours, and in much better circumstances than me because of their Books For All Project. I visit The BookHouse every 3 months – they have been a great support for my family. I am preparing for my masters now. I hope to provide a better life to my family in a few years. It will be a struggle but Guzarish has been a great help!”
